5. Hated Demon Slayer characters: Enmu

When we met Enmu, he was the only surviving Lower-Rank demon left. His fellow companions were murdered by Muzan after the leader decided they were far too weak. But following Enmu’s pleas and utter devotion to Muzan, he convinced Muzan to allow him one more attempt to bring down the human race. And this is where the events of the Infinity Train unfold.

Our discontent with Enmu doesn’t come from his use of the Infinity Train to devour humans (although that has a role to play in it). It’s more how he played heartless mind tricks that would traumatize even the strongest of demon slayers.

For example, with Tanjiro, Enmu gave him a vision of his family turning their back on him, angry that the young boy couldn’t protect them when they needed him most. Tanjiro over-mulled this hallucination, as the weight of guilt was far too heavy for him to bear. And although he knew there was not much he could do against someone as powerful as Muzan, it still hurt him tremendously to see his family treat him with such malice.

Fortunately, Tanjiro (and others) broke out of Enmu’s spell to take back the upper hand and thus defeat the demon with blaze and glory. Still, it sure would’ve been nice if Enmu used physical prowess instead of mental mind games because now our favorite characters (and ourselves) are left with nothing but nightmarish images of what could’ve happened.

What would make us hate Enmu less? Our gut leads us to believe that Enmu is either a teenager or a very young adult. In that sense, we don’t blame him too much for being wrapped up in Muzan’s schemes. Nevertheless, it would’ve been nice to see Enmu put his foot down and attempt to rebel against Muzan, especially after he witnessed how savage the powerful demon could be.

Youthfulness is best for rebelling against the authoritative powers that be. As the last Lower-Rank standing, he could’ve fought back against such a ruthless leader, even if it cost him his life. But, as we know, there’s really not much anyone can do against Muzan.
