The Titans find out that Nightwing has a plan to defeat his teammates in a new DC Comics story.

After the DC Comics’ event Dark Crisis, Nightwing was asked to lead the Justice League. Dick Grayson (Nightwing) accepted the offer in his own way. He said he wouldn’t be leading the Justice League. Instead, he made the Titans the world’s premiere superhero team.

Almost immediately, The Titans are tested. There was a jailbreak in Bludhaven (Nightwing No. 100 by Tom Taylor) and an attack on a nuclear power plant (Titans No. 1). Earth’s newest superhero team prevailed both times. The one thing they couldn’t prevent was the death of The Flash (Wally West).

As they’re attempting to move into their new home, they find Wally dead on the floor. However, before Dick could contact Wally’s family, Wally comes running into the scene. An autopsy reveals that the Flash who died was Wally West from the future. After finding this out, Nightwing refused to let Wally out of his sight.

Another environmental attack happens as the team is investigating Future Wally’s death. Flash said that he wasn’t going to sit by while Borneo burns. He then challenges Nightwing saying “Unless you think you can stop me.” Then, Dick Grayson paused. That’s when Wally and the rest of the Titans realize Dick has a plan to defeat them.

In an awkward moment, Cyborg asks Nightwing if he has a plan to stop them like Batman does. Dick Grayson admits this, but, unlike Batman, he wasn’t going to hide it from them. He tells them that it would be irresponsible to not have a strategy in place. And, like a leader should, he reminds them that there’s a fire in the rainforest that needs to be extinguished.

What’s next for DC Comics’ Titans?

Dick Grayson may have admitted to having contingencies in place for his teammates, so some of the Titans may feel betrayed. They’ll feel like there’s no reason for Dick to worry. Nevertheless, Nightwing is right to be forward thinking. Heroes get brainwashed, blackmailed, or become evil all the time. He needs to be prepared for that eventuality. That being said, Dick Grayson is a student of Batman. He’s not telling them everything.

He may not be as dark and seemingly emotionless as his former mentor, but Nightwing’s not naïve. This writer bets that Dick has ideas in place that his teammates will never know about. However, like most secrets in comics, the Titans will eventually find out what Dick has planned. When they do, it will cause them to lose trust in their leader. After that, it could be the end of the Titans in DC Comics.
