Superheros wear tights and Wolverine is wearing them in the new images from Marvel Studios Deadpool 3.
The previous X-Men movies have received a lot of criticism over the years. One of them was their choice of costume design. The black leather was awful. It didn’t work in the comics or the movies. As Cyclops put it in Astonishing X-Men No. 1, “Superheroes wear tights.” The end of X-Men: Apocalypse showed the cast in classic uniforms. Then, they didn’t follow up on it in the next project. It added more disappointment to a disappointing franchise.
Marvel Studios wasn’t weren’t afraid to put Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Paul Rudd in tights. The tights made the heroes and villains look like comic book characters. It appears that the creative team behind Deadpool 3 isn’t scared to do this either. Images from the set show Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in Logan’s classic yellow and blue tights.
When Ryan Reynolds announced that Hugh Jackman would return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, fans were ecstatic. They’ve been waiting for them to team up in a movie for years. No, the first Wolverine movie doesn’t count. This is actually a project with Deadpool in it. Not the foul violation of Wade Wilson that appeared at the end of the X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Now, on top of the team-up we’ve been waiting for, Hugh Jackman will actually look comic book accurate.
Logan in yellow and blue isn’t super important to the character. Especially if the product is good. Plus, if you’re a fan of Wolverine, you know he spends a lot of time out of the X-Men costume. During his side missions, he’s usually in jeans, a tank top, and a leather jacket. Even during X-Men missions, his uniform ends up being destroyed because he gets shot and burned a lot. Nevertheless, the importance isn’t the look. The attention to detail is.
The costume designers knew that this would make comic book fans happy. And, judging by the reaction from fans on social media, it was the right choice. Wolverine and Deadpool look fantastic together. It also helps that Wade Wilson has a spandex uniform too. Together, Wade Wilson and Logan look more comic-book-accurate than anything 20th Century Fox has done. This is a great start to Deadpool’s first Marvel Studios movie. And, trust this writer, this is nothing. Wait until Wolverine’s mask debuts. That’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for.
