Why the Quiet Council was always doomed

The Quiet Council was bound to fail. The majority of their members are too arrogant or selfish to think about anything other than themselves. Initially, that’s why mutants like Mystique, Apocalypse, Sebastian Shaw, and Exodus were brought on the council. They may have been some of the X-Men’s greatest enemies, but they provide different opinions that could be helpful. Unfortunately, they usually made things worse. However, it wasn’t just the former (and some current) villains that contributed to the Quiet Council’s downfall.

Jean Grey leaving was the first bad omen. She was the perfect person for the job. She sees both sides of everything. Without her, another spot opened to be corrupted by someone else. Her position was filled by Colossus who voted to tell the world about Sinister (don’t forget, he’s being controlled). Destiny taking over for Apocalypse (X-Men: Inferno) brought in someone who wants mutants to prosper. The problem is her love for Mystique causes Sins of Sinister.

Things continued to decline. Nightcrawler leaves after losing hope in Krakoa. Storm spends most of her time on Arrako and gives her vote to Colossus. Kate Pryde and Emma Frost remain the only voices of reason but can only do so much. Kate Pryde only has one vote leaving her vastly outnumbered. Emma is doing her best, except she can’t be trusted either. Sinister’s DNA could still be corrupting her.
