Fans were worried that Doom Patrol season 4 part 2 wouldn’t be coming out after all. Thankfully that is not the case.

DC fans have lost a lot over this past year. Their beloved CW shows met an untimely end because of the network’s sale to Nexstar, HBO Max movies were shockingly cancelled as the result of new leadership at Warner Bros. Discovery, and upcoming DC Extended Universe movies were scrapped as DC Studios pivoted to the brand new DC Universe.

One of the many casualties of the takeover was Doom Patrol. The former DC Universe series has been enjoying a successful run on Max since its second season, but it was cancelled along with fellow DC series Titans in the midst of its already-completed fourth season.

Titans returned to the streamer for the second half of its fourth and final season, but Doom Patrol hasn’t, which led to fans being concerned that it just wouldn’t be released at all. This is something that also crossed the mind of star Michelle Gomez, who took to social media to say that she had a “sinking feeling” that the final batch of episodes had “been binned”. Thankfully, that is not the case.

Doom Patrol season 4 part 2 has not been scrapped and will be released

Doom Patrol season 4 part 2 will still be released. DC Studios co-chairman and CEO James Gunn confirmed as much via new social media site Threads.

It all started when a fan asked Gunn whether or not the final six episodes of Doom Patrol would be scrapped. While the DC Studios head didn’t know the immediate answer, he added that he couldn’t “imagine a world where completed episodes are not going to be released.”

He subsequently followed that post up by getting official confirmation that the episodes would indeed be released, posting:

"“I now have confirmation: As I surmised, no, Doom Patrol episodes are absolutely NOT being shelved, even though the premiere date for the next shows hasn’t yet been announced to the public.”"

Naturally, this came as music to Doom Patrol fans’ ears. The show has become a fan-favorite, receiving critical acclaim for its outlandishly clever storytelling and powerful acting performances, so it wouldn’t have been right for it to get cut short when it had already been cancelled. But alas, fans were fearful because Titans was allowed to return for its last batch of episodes much earlier this year. As Doom Patrol followed up that show’s first batch of episodes, there was fear when it didn’t do the same with the second.

The truth is that we are living in a world where the second half of Doom Patrol season 4 not getting released felt like it could have been a possibility. After all, it’s on the same streamer that cancelled a near-complete Batgirl movie. So this confirmation is necessary, and it will hopefully put Doom Patrol fans at ease.

As for when Doom Patrol season 4 part 2 could come out, it could be as soon as next month, but with streamers and studios now seeking to hold onto content for longer during the WGA and SAG strikes, don’t be surprised if it’s held for a little bit longer.
