Anson Mount may not be returning as Black Bolt and talks about his future with the MCU.

Last year’s Marvel Cinematic Universe spectacle, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, brought about an avalanche of astonishing surprises. Topping that list was an unexpected appearance by Anson Mount, donning the mantle of Black Bolt.

It was a cameo that sent shockwaves through the Marvel fandom, considering that Mount’s initial run as the Inhuman king in the ill-fated Inhumans series wasn’t exactly met with standing ovations. Now, thanks to the infinite possibilities of the multiverse, the future holds countless potentialities for the resurgence of Black Bolt – perhaps even with a more comic-accurate suit like the one seen in Doctor Strange 2.

But could it actually happen in the MCU?

Anson Mount on the likelihood of Black Bolt’s return in the MCU

In an exclusive interview with Radio Times, Anson Mount opened up about reprising his Marvel role as Black Bolt once again, his current part in the ongoing second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds as Captain Pike, and his thoughts about future collaborations with Marvel.

When asked about his possible return to the MCU, Mount diplomatically replied:

"“If the answer was yes I wouldn’t be able to tell you – but the answer is no, so I can. I’ve had some informal conversations with the powers [at] Marvel and it’s a conversation, but they’ve got their current phase that they need to do.”"

MARVEL’S INHUMANS – The Inhumans, a race of superhumans with diverse and singularly unique powers, were first introduced in Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965. Since that time, they have grown in prominence and become some of the most popular and iconic characters in the Marvel Universe. “Marvel’s The Inhumans” will explore the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family. Fans might have to wait a while longer for any form of Black Bolt reincarnation, since, judging from Mount’s words, a reprise doesn’t seem to be on Marvel’s immediate to-do list.

Despite the ambiguity surrounding Anson Mount’s return as Black Bolt, fans can revel in the fact that in the Marvel multiverse, nothing is entirely off the table. It might not be in the immediate future, but we could see Mount, in his inaudible might as Black Bolt, once again ruling our screens.

After all, his return was one of the biggest surprises in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and even though the Scarlet Witch ensured the Illuminati’s version of the character won’t be seen again, Black Bolt’s return could still happen via the infinite possibilities in the multiverse.
