Godzilla vs Kong vs Justice League is the crossover that MonsterVerse and comic book fans never knew they needed.
Comic book crossovers have been popular for decades. Superman fought Muhammed Ali back in 1978. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have teamed up with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Batman (in the comics and a movie), and fought characters from Street Fighter.
Since this remains something enjoyable, companies will continue to produce them. This is why DC Comics is giving fans the crossover they never thought they’d see. Coming this October, it’s Godzilla, vs Kong vs the Justice League!
Entertainment Weekly reported that the DC Comics crossover will be a mini-series that puts two of the greatest of their genres against each other. The Justice League could be considered the best comic book superhero group of all time. Meanwhile, Kong and Godzilla are among the most recognizable monsters of all time.
Because of their popularity, it’s shocking that it’s taken so long for them to encounter each other. Then again, contracts and licensing for something this monumental must be difficult. With both DC and the MonsterVerse being part of Warner Bros, it makes sense that this would happen now. When this does well, don’t be surprised when Godzilla vs Kong vs Justice League becomes an animated movie or mini-series.
The comic book will be written by Brian Buccellato (Injustice: Gods Among Us Year Four) with art by Christian Duce (Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point). This creative team will ensure that this isn’t disappointing. It also helps that legendary artist and DC Comics publisher put his stamp on it. One of the many things he said was,
"“From an artist’s point of view, it is a challenge to compose the shots in a way that you’re able to show the drama through the faces, while at the same time clearly conveying what’s happening in terms of the action. But Christian just brought it home and has done a fabulous job.”"
Of course, the Justice League, Kong, and Godzilla won’t be the only characters seen. Brian Buccellato says “…you’re gonna see people from Gotham, you’ll see some Titans, you’ll see auxiliary Justice League members. The cast is pretty big.” He also mentioned that Kong and Godzilla aren’t the only monsters that we’ll see.
Unfortunately, he’s not allowed to say more. It would be shocking if there wasn’t an appearance from Mothra, Ghidorah, and Mechagodzilla. If this is going to be a big event, then DC should bring out all of the Kaiju-sized characters.
Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong is scheduled to be released on October 17, 2023. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow for more news on this crossover and which monsters appear as this comes out.
