James Gunn just put the rumors concerning Lex Luthor’s casting for the upcoming movie Superman: Legacy to bed.

Everyone’s feeling the excitement as the DC Universe goes through a massive facelift. I know I am as a new DC fan. The center topic of discussion, of course, is the upcoming Superman: Legacy, which will assign a new face to the Man of Steel.

One of my favorite things about James Gunn is that he is the type of person who likes to keep things transparent with his fans. He’s absolutely no stranger to the social media sphere, where he likes to debunk rumors, engage with fans, and answer any questions they may have.

The most recent rumor, other than fans theorizing about the Warner Bros Discovery CEO including a hefty cast for Legacy to lure buyers, has been about the casting of Lex Luthor.

Is Daniel Craig playing Lex Luthor?

Recent gossip says that Daniel Craig had been potentially cast for the role, but James Gunn took to Threads to put these rumors to bed quickly.

"“That is not true.”"

Let’s rewind a little. The casting for Superman: Legacy is slowly being revealed, and it seems we’re in for a treat with a list of other fan-favorite DC superheroes making appearances. That aside, we’re still in the dark about who’s going to play Superman, or whether Lex Luthor’s genius villainy will be even present in the movie.

Fans are hyped about Superman: Legacy, shooting a flurry of questions at Gunn at any given time. The movie is set to bring in the new DC Universe era and is filled with big appearances, fueling the excitement. Confirmed appearances include Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, Metamorpho, and Green Lantern.

Though Lex Luthor’s presence in Superman: Legacy isn’t guaranteed or hasn’t been mentioned much yet, don’t rule out anything. Gunn could very well introduce another big bad for Legacy. With his creative genius, the possibilities are endless. What we do know at the moment is that Daniel Craig is apparently not going to be playing Lex in Superman: Legacy.

Superman: Legacy is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
