Marvel Comics: X-Men to watch during the Fall of X

Orchis’ Mutant Massacre won’t be enough to stop the remaining X-Men in Marvel Comics. Here are the characters that will make the biggest difference during the Fall of X.

The 2023 Hellfire Gala wasn’t the normal glorious party. Something terrible happens every year, but this was different. First, Nimrod crashed in and killed most of the newly appointed X-Men. After that, the rest of Orchis came in and continued the carnage. Everyone who could, tried to fight back. but was forcibly stopped by Charles Xavier.

Unfortunately, Xavier was given an ultimatum. He could either send the mutants of the world off of Earth, or M.O.D.O.K. would begin killing humans. Obviously, Xavier agreed, but it came with a price. Sending mutants through the Krakoan Gates may have killed them. Thankfully, some of the mutants resisted Charles Xavier’s telepathic push via the Red Triangle Protocol.

Emma declared that any mutant that survived was officially an X-Man. That statement gave the survivors hope to fight back. It isn’t just the dozen mutants that were in Emma’s presence. Others are still around and ready and willing to go after Orchis. Here’s a look at the mutants to watch out for during the Marvel Comics event, Fall of X.

Firestar: Double Agent

Firestar was voted onto the X-Men during the 2022 Hellfire Gala. It was a random addition but worked it out. Her addition gave readers an opportunity to see how powerful she is. She may be a new member but is crucial to the mutant’s survival.

Before she died, Jean Grey used her powers to make Firestar a sleeper agent. Doctor Stasis (a Mr. Sinister clone) believes she’s been giving him intel. In reality, Jean Grey put that memory in his head. It’s too bad none of the heroes know what she’s doing. This is why Rogue threatened to kill her after saving Xavier.

Wolverine

If there’s an X-Men event in Marvel Comics, Wolverine will be involved. Towards the end of the Hellfire Gala, Logan can be seen butchering Orchis’ best special forces. Once he finds out exactly what happened, he’ll go on a killing spree. Logan may have said he’s done with Krakoa (Wolverine No. 35 by Benjamin Percy), but he will always defend and get revenge for innocent people. Especially Jean Grey. Wolverine would fight the world for her.

Sabretooth

The final issue of Sabretooth and the X-Men left Victor Creed (Sabretooth) in control of multiple versions of himself. They may not have heads, but they still have their claws, and feral instincts, and are under Victor’s control. Initially, Victor planned on going after everyone in the Quiet Council that sent him to The Pit (House of X). He may not have the same mission and not be part of Krakoa, but Orchis still wants him dead. This will leave Victor wondering if the enemy of his enemy is his friend.

X-Force

X-Force is one of the few mutant groups that survived the massacre at the Hellfire Gala. Since they’re Krakoa’s kill squad, there’s no way they’ll sit this out. Especially since their loved ones were executed. The cover of X-Force No. 43 shows Black Tom, Deadpool, Wolverine (Laura Kinney), Domino, Omega Red, and Colossus.

Look for Domino to shine throughout X-Force, Black Tom to show how underrated his powers are, and for Deadpool to be hilarious and deadly. More than that, pay attention to Colossus. He’s still being controlled by his brother (Mikhail Rasputin) and his flunky. Will he use this opportunity to get closer to his goal, try and help his fellow mutants, or was he killed by  Xavier as well?

Mother Righteous

Since appearing in Marvel Comics, Mother Righteous has been making moves on the Astral Plane during Legion of X and in the physical realm. She was also a major player during Sins of Sinister. This didn’t change during the Hellfire Gala.

As mutants were moving towards the gates, Mother Righteous took Krakoa’s Atlantic Island and put it in one of her lanterns. No one knows why. This writer believes that she’s holding mutants for safekeeping within her lantern.

Mother Righteous may be working with Orchis, but it isn’t for sinister reasons (pun intended). She could have seen no other way to protect Marvel’s mutants. Maybe that’s where the Krakoan gates led to and why Xavier couldn’t feel them. It can’t be a coincidence that Krakoa in her lantern was shown as mutants controlled by Xavier. Plus, Orchis is all science. They wouldn’t know how to penetrate her magic.

Mr. Sinister

It shouldn’t be forgotten that Mr. Sinister is still in The Pit. Should anyone in Marvel Comics trust him? Of course not. His name literally means giving the impression that something harmful or evil is happening or will happen! However, once again, is the enemy of my enemy my friend? If anyone can take out Orchis, it’s sinister. Maybe Mother Righteous breaks him out and keeps him on a tight leash.

Jean Grey, Iceman, and Shadowkat

Lastly, there are three X-Men to pay close attention to. Jean Grey, Iceman, and Kate Pryde. All three of them have Marvel Comics coming out. Jean and Iceman have solo comics coming out and Kate Pryde accidentally landed in an Orchis base.

Iceman was turned into a puddle by Nimrod, but Bobby Drake is an omega-level mutant. He’ll be back. And Jean Grey never stays dead. Kate Pryde’s first reappearance will happen in X-Men No. 25 where she’ll return to her old ninja ways. If this writer is correct, the Krakoa law, “Kill no man” is about to go out of the window. Kate Pryde will slaughter a lot of Orchis soldiers for massacring her family.
