Let’s talk about the latest Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode, Hidden Inventory 4, in full detail.

If you’ve been reading my Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 reviews, it’s not hard to see that I am a huge fan of Gojo. Not just because he is perfect and beautiful so charismatic, though he really is, but also because everyone usually underestimates this tall, thin, and seemingly careless man.

In this episode, he reminds us all that he truly is the most powerful sorcerer of his time and has had that pair of gorgeous eyes for a while.

There will be SPOILERS AHEAD!

After we were all slightly shocked by the ending of the third episode of season 2, the following episode “Hidden Inventory 4”, starts off by plunging us immediately into the heart of the action: Fushiguro and Getou are locked in vicious combat.

Fushiguro talks about his journey to Jujutsu High, detailing the intricacies of his survival tactics – his invisibility skills, his lack of cursed energy, and the cursed spirit carrying his cursed tool inside his stomach at all times. That doesn’t sound pleasant. Fushiguro’s tactical decision to prioritize Satoru over Riko is a look into the kind of strategic mind he has yet doesn’t usually reveal. His revelation about his Heavenly Pact, which, he explains, enhances his senses, makes him capable of identifying footprints and scents that others would fail to recognize.

Despite the odds, Fushiguro ultimately triumphs over Getou after a relentless and glorious battle, symbolizing the defeat of the mighty at the hands of an underdog, a narrative we all adore… When the right underdog wins, I must admit.

After his win, we find Fushiguro at the Star Religious Group Headquarters presenting poor Riko’s corpse to Shigeru Sonoda. In an unexpected turn of events, Shigeru is generous, offering Fushiguro a reward and a bonus. This episode also shows Fushiguro’s partner’s humanity as he refuses to execute Kuroi. This segment of the episode also tries to alleviate some of the darker themes and events in it by having some humorous exchanges. Let’s not forget this is Jujutsu Kaisen.

For those of us who have followed the anime since season1, we’re all very well aware Gojo is alive and well during the current timeline. Seeing him get stabbed and sliced in the third episode was a little worrying and gruesome, but we ultimately knew he wouldn’t die from that. But it didn’t make the episode any less tense as a blood-soaked Gojo shows back up, catching Fushiguro off guard. What follows is a spectacular fight that sees Fushiguro struggling against Gojo, proving that knowing about the Limitless technique doesn’t mean you can truly prepare for it. There isn’t any way to prepare for it, at least not from what I’ve seen.

The fighting comes to an end as Fushiguro, fatally wounded by Gojo, mentions that his own offspring (Megumi) is being sold to the Zen’in clan soon before dying… standing up? Great balance even in death, I say. With the fan theory linking Fushiguro to Megumi turning out to be true, we hope the mystery behind Fushiguro’s estrangement from the clan unfolds in future episodes with the “current” group.

Studio Mappa continues to leave its mark with this episode, perfectly blending adrenaline-fuelled battles with very in-depth character development. We love to see it. Fushiguro’s tactical prowess and characterization will be remembered by fans, even with his early departure from the series. I was honestly expecting to see more of him throughout this arc. Now would be a good time to say I have not had a chance to read the manga, so fans who have do have an upper hand at knowing what’s coming next.

Gojo’s survival and triumph, while expected, were handled smartly, and the explanation of his recovery was seamlessly perfectly explained and concocted. The absolute visual feast offered by Studio Mappa, along with deep plot developments and charismatic characters, makes this episode a standout in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2.

It’s clear that Studio Mappa is committed to raising the bar in the anime world with Jujutsu Kaisen, and this episode is truly a testament to their dedication and passion. Don’t miss out on the next episode, which airs Thursday August 3 on Crunchyroll!
