Kate Pryde shows that she’s more dangerous than her mentor, Wolverine, in X-Men No. 25 as the Fall of X continues.

At the end of the X-Men: Hellfire Gala, Kate Pryde falls through a Krakoan Gate. This is weird for a couple of reasons. First, Orchis made sure that the gates were locked for everyone. Second, Kate hasn’t been able to use the gates.

Going through the gate was both a gift and a curse. Kate could move through the gates undetected. This allowed her to get information to and from other humans and mutants willing to fight back. She went as far as Mars (Arrako) to get the word out to mutants.

The curse of it all was harsh. After she fell through the Krakoan Gate, she was met by Orchis soldiers. Their immediate reaction was to kill her. This switches something in Kate. She went on to slaughter every one of the Orchis soldiers in ways that resemble Mortal Kombat fatalities. The scary part of all this is Kate Pryde doesn’t kill.

Nevertheless, she says, “Krakoa was a land of laws. The first was, “Murder no man.’” She announces this right as she kills the first Orchis soldier. When everything is over, she drops to her knees and cries, unable to believe what she’s done. However, she knows it was necessary.

After readers see that flashback, the next page shows Kate telling Emma to leave her old name on the funeral pyre. Orchis will regret what they did. The Shadowkat fans are meeting someone new. A Kate Pryde who’s okay with killing and whose next step is to kill Firestar.

More dangerous than Wolverine?

When Kitty Pryde joined the X-Men, she was a young, naive teenager. She had no idea what the world had in store for her. Among those things was being possessed by a demon ninja named Ogun and becoming an elite fighter. Another person who had a hand in her training is Wolverine. He helped Kate regain control of her body from Ogun.

Despite two of her teachers being unafraid to kill when they had to, Kate wasn’t a killer. However, Wolverine always knew what she was capable of. In  Astonishing X-Men No. 3, Kate asked if Logan was going to fight her next. He replied, “Nah, you’d go ninja on me–I can’t take that kind of hurt.” This, combined with everything Shadowkat did in X-Men No. 25, may prove she’s more dangerous than Wolverine.

"“When you get to Hell, tell Ogun I said hello.” – Shadowkat"

Logan is the best there is at what he does and what he does isn’t very nice. In X-Men No. 25, the narrator points out the things Shadowkat learned from Logan. Among those things is being creative with her phasing. People think her mutant power is defensive. As Orchis discovered, they can be offensive and deadly.

Kate’s biggest advantage in this fight is not being touched. Logan can swing his claws all he wants. It doesn’t matter if they don’t touch her. Although Logan has an advantage when it comes to her phase. His adamantium has a weird effect on Shadowkat. How much of his metal she can take before getting fatigued?

Shadowkat doesn’t need to phase through Wolverine or his claws. She can pull him into something else or put something inside Logan’s body. Does her mutant powers make this a done deal for Wolverine? Not at all, but she could become his greatest opponent if they ever fought.
