Let’s go back all the way to 2008. Iron Man premiered to incredible success and exceeded everyone’s expectations. The movie paved the way for multiple superhero projects to follow and allowed the MCU to become the immense juggernaut that it is today.

Iron Man became a household superhero that everyone knows and loves and went on to appear in multiple projects for the next eleven years. However, Tony Stark wasn’t the only big MCU player that audiences were introduced to in Iron Man. James Rhodes, who would later become War Machine, made its big screen debut as well, and from that point onwards he has become a recurring character throughout the MCU’s history.

Terrence Howard played the character of Rhodey in the first Iron Man movie, but Don Cheadle took over in Iron Man 2 after the role was recast. Ever since that moment, Don has been the face of War Machine across many movies and TV series. He is one of the main stars in Secret Invasion (the latest series released on Disney Plus) and he’ll also have a protagonistic role in the upcoming Armor Wars movie (which originally was planned to release as a series before it was decided its scope was too enormous for TV).

Rhodey has been at the center of the spotlight lately, and that just goes to prove how much his character has evolved from being Tony Stark’s right-hand man.

While have yet to learn more about James Rhodes’ personal life on the big screen, one thing is for sure: You can always count on him whenever there is a world-changing event. As proof of that, War Machine has been a consistent member of the Avengers ever since the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

He also took sides with Tony Stark and faced many of his colleagues when the Sokovia Accords were created in Captain America: Civil War. Besides, who can forget how much he turned the tides in favor of the Avengers during the battle of Wakanda in Avengers Infinity War? Rhodey acted as a one-man army capable of defeating many of Thanos’ forces on his own.

With over six big screen appearances on the MCU under his belt, Don Cheadle has become an iconic hero for audiences worldwide. So before he stars in a movie of his own, let’s look back at all of his previous big-screen projects and rank them from disappointing to incredibly excellent.
