A new She-Hulk run is now getting the “Sensational” title inspired by the classic John Byrne run written by author and Eisner Award-nominated writer.

Although we are not expecting to receive a second season of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law anytime soon, Marvel Comics fans can look forward to another series which is 2023’s Sensational She-Hulk according to Gaming Bible.

The upcoming comic book series inspired by the aforesaid 1989 John Byrne run of the same name scripted by writer Rainbow Rowell and illustrated by artist Andrés Genolet is set to hit comic stores on October 18.

The current She-Hulk run explained

Rowell pivoted Jennifer Walters from her brutish and chunky She-Hulk form following the “Winter Hulk” scenario by going back to basics and having her work with Mallory Book again at her law firm. She-Hulk encountered a depowered Jack of Hearts long since believed to be dead, while both former Avengers teammates attempt to solve the mystery behind what happened to Jack and his condition, they get attacked by two super-powered individuals, Mark and April Booth. As time went on, Jennifer and Jack became romantically involved.

In order to find out what happened to Jack, She-Hulk paid a visit to the Booths. Although something was not right as Mark now has green skin following their last confrontation and he attacked her and put her in cuffs. It turned out that Booth experimented with Jennifer’s blood to gain Hulk-like abilities but there were unforeseen side effects. They tried to utilize Jack’s zero energy to rectify the changes. Jack intervened as he arrived then absorbed the tank containing his zero energy restoring his powers and ending the Booth’s plans.

Currently, She-Hulk and Jack’s relationship has been under heavy strain once the latter’s powers have returned as there has been a halt in the couple’s intimacy but continued their heroism. However, a spanner has been thrown in the works with the handsome, formidable, and mysterious thief, the Scoundrel.

What is “Sensational” about the new She-Hulk series?

During an interview with Marvel.com, Rowell teased what is to come with the upcoming series including the return of supporting characters like Patsy Walker and Jack of Hearts and her villains. When questioned about the difference between the present She-Hulk run formerly illustrated by Rogê Antônio and the next phase with “Sensational” in the title. Rowell responded:

"“That word makes me think of the original Sensational She-Hulk from artist/writer John Byrne. It’s a vibe, really; gorgeous art, gorgeous Jen, jokes, a feeling that anything can happen, and a focus on a Jen as a person, a woman. We were definitely inspired by that run in our previous issues, and we’re learning in even more with the new book. I want it to feel really smooth and buoyant, an ongoing celebration of Jen as a character.”"

It appeared from the interview that Rowell intended to move forward in the direction of Byrne’s run in spirit, but whether or not the young-adult author will add something a bit more different which she did with her own run, which is light-hearted in tone, but more grounded in terms of scale, remains to be seen.
