Donald Glover who starred as a younger Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story has been tapped to fill a key role in the Lando series in development.

Childish Gambino is going to dust off and revive one Lucasfilm original series by penning the Lando series with his brother.

The 39-year-old multi-hyphenate actor hailing from the NBC sitcom Community and FX’s Atlanta is upgrading from merely playing the role of Lando Calrissian the potential series about the character, and is now attached to co-write the show with his brother Stephen Glover. Not only is he set to co-write the show, but he’s also expected to reprise his role as Lando according to CBR and The Hollywood Reporter.

What became of the Lando series?

Since December 2020, the development of a Lando series began with Justin Simien tapped as writer and showrunner. By July of this year, Simien gave an update revealing he did not receive any update about the series from Lucasfilm since.

Though reports have suggested Simien may have been quietly let go from the project. Whatever led to his removal from the Lando series, he was replaced by the Glover Bros. Above the Line claimed the reason for Simien’s release is so he could focus on directing the Haunted Mansion reboot starring Lakeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, and Rosario Dawson, with the same report claiming Simien was removed from the project since last summer of 2022.

So what are the plans for the Lando series?

Donald Glover, who has an overall deal with Amazon alongside his brother, still expressed interest in reprising his role as Calrissian. Back in April, during a GQ interview, Donald said he, “[Would] love to play Lando,” again but it would have to “be the right way to do it.”

Though, now it seems Disney and Lucasfilm are “eager to move forward with the project.” The Glovers have not shared any details about the series but it has been noted that “their take is said to have Lucasfilm brass excited.” Currently, we may have to wait until the actor’s and writer’s strike ends as the Glovers have paused work on the script for now.
