2. Wonder Woman: Connection to other heroes

One of the things that has helped Wonder Woman is the aesthetics of being a period piece. We’ve seen her fitting in World War I and partaking in ’80s fashion; now it’s time to move up a notch. For some of us, the early 2000s feel like yesterday, but it’s been two decades. It’s officially the old days and a perfect era for a new Wonder Woman film.

In the DCU, it’s clear that heroes would have existed for some time. If Gal Gadot doesn’t return, there are some actresses who’d be fantastic in the role. Either way, the DCU should have a Wonder Woman that’s established herself as one of the world’s most prominent heroes. In fact, she could be connected to the JSA as someone who worked alongside some of the original team members (minus Superman).

Imagine a story adapting The Return of Hawkman for the big screen with Aldis Hodge reprising the role. Tweak it a bit and make him the “big bad.”  This movie could dive into the mythos of past lives and take the setting from America to Egypt. We could see Hawkgirl working to free herself from the “destiny” that leads to her and Hawkman being together.

Given that Wonder Woman has been around for centuries, she’d work as a fantastic guide for this young(ish) hero. There’s even a subtext narrative that works in terms of exploring how who we were yesterday does not determine what we can become.

Since Isabela Merced will play Hawkgirl, we can see her reprising the role in a Wonder Woman film. Imagine a prequel story where we see a different side of Hawkgirl. She’d be a great supporting character as the story focuses once again on who Diana was and who she will become.
