11. Apocalypse

Why did they introduce him the way they did? Why didn’t they play out his story like the saga it deserved? And seriously, why did he look like he took a wrong turn from a Power Rangers set?

The legendary mutant supervillain deserved better than what Fox gave him. Oscar Isaac’s talent was squandered in a role that left fans scratching their heads. Apocalypse was supposed to be the big bad, the game-changer, the mutant who awakens after thousands of years to reshape the world in his image. But instead, we got Ivan Ooze from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

In the comics, Apocalypse’s story was epic and spanned generations. Fans got to read about his complex moralities of survival and of course his unmatched power. But Fox turned him into a blue villain-of-the-week, with an appearance that left us more puzzled than awestruck.

Why introduce him with a whimper instead of a bang? Why turn a character with the potential for a multi-movie arc into a one-shot wonder? Questions we may never get the answer to.

As we eagerly anticipate the MCU’s take on the X-Men universe, we can only hope that the mighty Apocalypse gets his due. Tie him to Mister Sinister for goodness sake.
