Star Wars shakes up the galaxy by saying goodbye to Temuera Morrison and saying hello to a Hollywood A-Lister as Boba Fett.

Boba Fett needs little to no introduction for Star Wars fans. Despite having limited screen time in the original trilogy, the enigmatic bounty hunter captured the audience’s imagination. Temuera Morrison was initially cast as Jango Fett (Boba’s father) in the prequels and became the canonical face of the character.

He reprised his role in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, adding even more depth to Boba Fett’s character and solidifying himself as his face. This makes the decision to not bring him back a little awkward and weird, especially given the fan excitement around his return for the two series.

In a surprising turn of events, Temuera Morrison, the actor who reprised the role of Boba Fett in The Mandalorian and starred as the title character in the Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett, recently revealed that he wasn’t asked to return for the third season. Now it seems that Disney is moving on from the actor and has tapped a Hollywood A-Lister to take over the role in a new project.

Has Boba Fett been recast?

While Morrison’s portrayal has been the cannon so far, Boba Fett’s character, hidden behind armor, could be and has been played by different actors without breaking the immersion. We’ve  all known about Daddy Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin portrayed by stunt actors while Pascal provides the voiceover – especially while he’s away filming The Last of Us. Now it seems a new actor will be stepping into the role of Boba Fett.

Jon Hamm, a favorite among fans, is set to take up the role in a new audiobook. Hamm, is no stranger to the Star Wars universe, having lent his voice to the character in two audiobooks in the From a Certain Point of View anthology series. His work has already been well-received, offering a unique and refreshing tone to Boba Fett that aligns well with the character’s persona.

While Morrison’s absence will definitely rub some fans the wrong way, he has expressed his disappointment at not being involved in future Star Wars projects, which raises some flags about the decision and why it was made.

Dave Filoni, the mastermind behind much of modern Star Wars storytelling, is said to be working on a film that will wrap up storylines from The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and possibly including The Book of Boba Fett. Whether Boba Fett will make an appearance in this film and who will portray him if he does is still unknown.
