Glenn and Abraham
Arguably the most memorable (and most painful) deaths throughout all 11 seasons of The Walking Dead are Glenn and Abraham’s. It still hurts to think about this shocking episode, doesn’t it!?
Now, in season 7, Negan is the big villain and he definitely is not playing any games. In the opening scene of the episode, Negan and his men corner Rick and the group, and he doesn’t waste time proving how serious he is. After playing “eeny, meeny, miny, moe,” he chooses Abraham to kill with his baseball bat (wrapped in barbed wire), a.k.a. Lucille, hitting him over the head repeatedly. It’s truly so gruesome and upsetting to everyone watching. But he’s not done there.
Unsatisfied with just one death, Negan uses Lucille again to kill Glenn. The scene is incredibly graphic, making for a disturbing and emotional watch, through and through.
Talk about a season premiere, right? Both Glenn and Abraham are significant characters in the series who fans come to love. For Glenn, we love his down-to-earth nature and sense of humor. He’s also very loyal and fans love his relationship with Maggie. Abraham might not be as popular, but his growth and redemption cannot be forgotten.
It’s been years, but we’re still not over this scene!
VERDICT: Bring back
Shane
This is a tough one. Shane Walsh dies pretty early on in The Walking Dead, in season 2 to be exact, but his death is still one of the most surprising. Though Shane starts off as a close friend of Rick, tensions arise between the two as time goes on and they face increasingly difficult situations together. The two disagree over their leadership decisions and their conflicting feelings for Lori.
Over time, Shane’s mental stability deteriorates as the challenges of the post-apocalyptic world take their toll. This instability raises concerns among the group members and viewers alike.
Shane’s death in the television series is a significant turning point. In the second season’s penultimate episode, tensions between Shane and Rick escalate to a violent confrontation. Shane, feeling that Rick’s leadership is putting the group in danger, lures Rick into the woods under the pretense of a conversation. However, Shane reveals his intention to kill Rick and take Lori and Carl for himself. Rick realizes Shane’s intentions and manages to outwit him. During their struggle, Rick fatally stabs Shane.
Though we miss the Shane he used to be, he’s just too far gone at the point of his death.
VERDICT: Leave dead
