5. Resident Evil: Apocalypse

The direct sequel and second entry in the Resident Evil film franchise is 2004’s Resident Evil: Apocalypse.

As a fan of the video games and the films however cheesy they may be I actually have them all in my media collection. When Apocalypse came out it was closer to the vibe the video games created than any of the other films but it was a much smaller scale film at that. What I loved most from Apocalypse was the introduction to the familiar characters of Jill Valentine and Carlos Olivera.

The film series as we know is loosely based on its video game counterpart so whenever a storyline or character from the games actually appears on film it’s always a delight to see on the big screen.

Sienna Guillory and Oded Fehr play Jill and Carlos respectively and are well cast in their roles. They were perfect additions to the film franchise and worked well with Milla Jovovich’s Alice.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse unfortunately did not perform well at the box office and is one of the lowest performing of all the Resident Evil films to date. I for one appreciate it for its efforts and its narrative tone feeling like a worthy sequel to the first film.
