2. Scott risked his relationship with Cassie by helping Captain America

Scott Lang may be one of the most lovable characters in the MCU as a whole. After all, he does everything he does for his daughter and to ensure he can be with her. When his ex-wife, Maggie, prohibited him from being with Cassie until he paid for child support, Scott worked hard to find a job (even when no one would hire him for being an ex-convict). Ultimately, he turned back to crime in an attempt to perform one final heist that could give him the resources to see his daughter sooner rather than later. While that in itself wasn’t the most clever decision ever, he did it all for Cassie.

Scott’s efforts finally paid off as at the end of Ant-Man he was a free man who could spend quality time with his daughter whenever he wanted. Surely he would never do anything to endanger his freedom and potentially risk not seeing Cassie again… right? Especially not going on another mission that he knows goes against the law.

Well, turns out that’s exactly what he did.

We all know there’s a little bit of a rebel inside Scott. Hank Pym said it best: “The moment things get hard you turn back to crime”, and that it’s true. When Lang realized it would take a lot of time to see Cassie while having a low-paying job, he robbed Hans’s house in hopes of getting more money faster. But Scott wasn’t going through a difficult moment after the events of Ant-Man. If anything, he was at one of the highest points in his life. So what exactly could drive him to commit yet another crime by helping Steve Rogers during the events of Captain America: Civil War? Was he aware Maggie could’ve prohibited him from seeing Cassie if he was arrested again?

Maybe Scott was so excited to get to know his heroes that he forgot about Cassie for a brief moment. He could’ve accepted to take the mission without considering how it could have ended his relationship with his one and only daughter. However, even that explanation seems out of character for everyone’s favorite size-altering hero. Whatever the case may be, his involvement in Captain America: Civil War went against everything he fought for during the events of Ant-Man.
