5. Season 4, Episode 2, “The Lion and the Rose”
Now onto our final moment that proved Joffrey Baratheon is the worst character in Game of Thrones. Season 4, episode 2, “The Lion and the Rose,” which aired on April 13, 2014 on HBO. The official synopsis for the episode reads:
"“Joffrey and Margaery’s wedding has come. Tyrion breaks up with Shae. Ramsay tries to prove his worth to his father. Bran and company find a Weirwood tree.”"
Although the episode saw the satisfying death of Joffrey Baratheon after drinking poisoned wine at his wedding reception, he managed to squeeze in a few more cruel and sadistic moments in the episode.
“The Lion and the Rose” episode is set against the backdrop of Joffrey Baratheon and Margaery Tyrell’s wedding. In this episode, Joffrey inflicts humiliation upon his uncle Tyrion and the majority of the wedding attendees by compelling a troupe of short-statured actors to reenact the gruesome events of the War of the Five Kings. Joffrey expresses his delight at the reenactment, which depicts Joffrey, Renly Baratheon, Stannis Baratheon, Robb Stark, and Balon Greyjoy battling it out to the death in a crude and insensitive manner.
This moment is significant because it shows Joffrey’s lack of empathy and his willingness to cause chaos and destruction for his own amusement. The scene is particularly cruel because it involves the use of little people, who are already marginalized and discriminated against in Westeros. Joffrey’s decision to force them to reenact the deaths of his own wedding guest’s family members is a clear example of his sadistic nature and his willingness to cause pain and suffering to others.
So, when he succumbed to poison shortly after this scene, it provided us with a deep sense of satisfaction!
So there you have it, all the reasons and particular moments that made Joffrey Baratheon the WORST character in Game of Thrones history!
