Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious

Emperor Palpatine, also known as Darth Sidious, is one of the central antagonists throughout Star Wars. Known for his participation in the rise of the Galatic Empire, the character is a manipulator fans love to hate. We first get to know him in the original trilogy, then in the prequels, and he makes a shocking return from the dead in the sequel trilogy.

Trained in the ways of the Dark Side by Darth Plagueis, Palpatine betrays his master and eventually rises in the political ranks. He’s a complete tyrant and causes suffering and devastation across the galaxy. What’s there to like about Palpatine? Really, nothing. There are no redeeming qualities about him. He embodies evil and everything the good guys are fighting against.

Although Palpatine dies in Return of the Jedi, killed by Darth Vader who is trying to save his son Luke, he’s brought back in The Rise of Skywalker. Fortunately, Rey is able to kill him, and that better be the end of him! I don’t love how they brought him back for the sequel trilogy, so I definitely don’t want to see Palpatine return from the dead once more.

There would be absolutely no point to bring back Palpatine. Let’s usher in some new villains instead!

VERDICT: Leave dead
