3. Mystique

I struggled to have her on this list, but I thought Mystique wasn’t a first-film type of character. The ultimate shape-shifter deserves a shot at greatness in the MCU. We saw her as a cameo character in the original trilogy with zero depth. Yes, she was in the first X-Men film back in 2000, but that shouldn’t be the case with the MCU. As a matter of fact, the first time we see Mystique shouldn’t be in an X-Men film at all. We need to see Mystique with Destiny and Rogue in a Captain Marvel film.

In the comics, Mystique is a ruthless, cunning manipulator. She’s the kind of character who’d give Thanos a run for his money in the evil department. Her complex relationship with Destiny, her role as Nightcrawler’s mother, and her ability to infiltrate and undermine her enemies makes her an absolute beast. We got none of that.

Her history dates back centuries, connecting her to several characters including Wolverine. Fox did give us a Mystique and Magneto relationship, but not in the way we expected. There was not a Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, she was not a leader. She was a follower who joined the X-Men, and that was about it.

The MCU needs to rectify this by featuring Mystique as a cunning leader and mother who manipulates Rogue into taking Captain Marvel’s powers.
