Every Mark Ruffalo Marvel movies and shows, ranked

Mark Ruffalo is one of the original stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ruffalo has starred and appeared as Bruce Banner/Hulk in more Marvel movies than almost any other actor. With more Hulk on the way to the MCU soon, we thought it would be a great time to rank all of Ruffalo’s major appearances in the MCU from worst to best.

Ruffalo has appeared in 10 Marvel movies and shows, but he’s only been in starring roles in six of the movies and shows, so we’re going to focus on those for this ranking. It’s just too hard to rank an appearance that only lasts a couple of minutes to the movies where Ruffalo and Bruce Banner/Hulk played a big part in the overall story. Those movies and shows are:

  • The Avengers (2012)
  • Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
  • Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
  • Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
  • Avengers: Endgame (2019)
  • She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)

The other four Marvel movies and shows Ruffalo appeared in are:

  • Iron Man 3 (2013)
  • Captain Marvel (2019)
  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
  • What If…? (2021)

Let’s get the ranking of Mark Ruffalo’s MCU movies started with the worst of the bunch, Avengers: Age of Ultron.

6. Avengers: Age of Ultron

Avengers: Age of Ultron is the second of the Avengers movies, and sadly, it’s the worst of the Marvel movies that Ruffalo has been a part of so far. It’s not that Age of Ultron is that bad, but when you compare it to the other Avengers movies and some of the Marvel movies, it really doesn’t hold up that well. Yes, there are some great moments, action sequences, and important events that shape the future of these characters and the MCU, but it’s just not quite there.

In Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Avengers must come together to stop Ultron, a sentient AI being trying to destroy humanity. Hulk and the rest of the Avengers try to stop Ultron.

Throughout the movie, Bruce Banner struggles with the damage he can do when Hulk gets out of control. He also has a romantic relationship with Natasha Romanoff. After defeating Ultron, Banner leaves Earth because he’s worried that he’s going to hurt innocent people or those that he loves.

It’s one of the most important parts of the whole movie. I didn’t understand it at the time, and I hated it. Years later, I know it was the right decision for the character and story.

Up next is a Disney+ original TV show!
