The Loki season 2 premiere introduced audiences to several new characters including one played by actor Rafael Casal that already has fans eager to know more!

Loki‘s second season has officially arrived and the first episode of season 2 wasted no time in jumping right back into the action with what was truly an amazing season opener. There is so much to process following the first episode, including the many new faces the premiere introduces which includes Rafael Casal in the role of TVA Agent X-5.

We first meet X-5 early in the episode in a scene that is likely to have you wondering whether the character is new or someone we met in season 1 which you might just be forgetting. To clear the air, X-5 is a new character. So no, you’re not forgetting him as he did not appear in the first season of the show.

When X-5 is introduced, it’s hinted that he has a shared history with Mobius and that he’s not likely to be an ally. We say this because our introduction to X-5 sees him mocking Mobius’s jet ski magazine as he informs Mobius and B-15 that General Dox and Judge Gamble want to see them both in the War Room.

As Mobius and B-15 make their case to Dox and Gamble, X-5 is right by Dox’s side hinting that he’s Dox’s righthand man… and that our first instincts were likely right about him not being an ally to Mobius, B-15, and Loki. This gut instinct is correct because as the episode ends, we see X-5 helping Dox lead a new troop of TVA hunters to find Sylvie.

It’s clear that X-5 is going to be a thorn in Mobius, B-15, and Loki’s side this season and that he’ll likely follow Dox’s every order which at the moment seems to be bringing Sylvie in no matter the cost so they can pin everything that is happening on her.

Rafael Casal is no stranger to the industry, but his role in Loki season 2 is by far his most notable role yet, and one that is sure to help him reach a larger audience than past projects he’s appeared in which include Blindspotting, Bad Education, The Good Lord Bird, and Are You Afraid of the Dark?, among others.

He gained critical acclaim for his work on the 2018 film BLindspotting which he wrote, produced, and starred in which was acquired by Lionsgate after making its debut at Sundance to rave reviews. The movie was later adapted into a series for Starz, a series that saw Casal reprise his role from the movie while also serving as a writer and showrunner on the show’s two-season run.

In addition to acting and writing, Casal is also a poet and musician with Casal credited for working on music for the Apple TV+ series Central Park. Oh, and he also happens to be the co-founder and Artistic Director of the Bars Workshop at the renowned Public Theater in New York City.
