Ms. Marvel’s DNA may be the key to protecting the X-Men from Orchis and their mutant-hunting scanners.

Say what you want about Marvel Comics‘ Orchis; they may be devious, disgusting, and deplorable delinquents, but they’re smart. Their plan to invade the Hellfire Gala worked perfectly.

They made sure every government on Earth believed that the mutants of Krakoa killed diplomats attending the gala. After that, all mutants were forced to leave Earth or go to gene therapy camps. The camps don’t only remove mutant powers. Most of the time they’re captured and experimented on.

In the past, it was relatively easy for mutants to hide as the X-Men would keep them hidden. Or, if you didn’t look like a mutant, they could exist in plain sight. If their appearance wasn’t human, an image inducer was used to conceal their appearance. None of those tricks work anymore. Orchis Sentinels have the ability to scan people and find out if they have an X-gene. As awful as that is, hope came in an unlikely place.

Ms. Marvel could give the X-Men the upper hand

In X-Men No. 27 by Gerry Duggan, the remaining X-Men visit the Fantastic Four (who’ve been living off the grid). The goal was for Reed Richards to build the device that hid Franklin Richards’ X-Gene. Unfortunately, Charles Xavier made Reed forget how to build the device (X-Men/Fantastic 4 issue No. 4). Not even going inside Reed’s mind worked.

Hope seemed lost. Then, an idea came out of nowhere. Ms. Marvel pointed out that the Terrigenesis masked her X-Gene. Reed heard that, paused, then laughed. He remembered that he used the Terrigen Mist in small doses and that this could mask mutant DNA.

Soon, the X-Men will have a much-needed advantage against Orchis. Being cloaked will allow them to move around more easily. However, without access to the Baxter Building (Fantastic Four by Ryan North), it may take Reed a bit to create the device. Hopefully, it won’t come too late.

Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out when the device is created and if it works.
