Ahsoka: Every character ranked from worst to best
5. Shin Hati
In the tangled web of Ahsoka‘s narrative, Shin Hottie Hati is the Padawan-equivalent or apprentice to Baylan Skoll’s Sith (is it Sith? It was never fully explained, to nobody’s surprise) Master. However, the twist here is that both Baylan and Shin aren’t your typical Sith… Knights?
Baylan boldly declares in the very first episode, “We are no Jedi.” It’s a declaration that resonates throughout their journey – they wield the Force and lightsabers, but they dance on the darker side of things, as it seems.
The beauty of Shin’s character lies in her complexity, despite her very limited dialogue in Ahsoka. It’s in those subtle, meaningful micro-expressions where her depth truly shines. There are moments when she appears conflicted, her beautifully big eyes betraying doubt, sadness, and maybe even confusion. Ivanna Sakhno’s portrayal adds layers to Shin that might not be immediately apparent.
While Ahsoka herself doesn’t seem to harness her full potential in terms of character development, Shin’s does, offering a refreshing departure from the conventional Sith archetype. She doesn’t quite seem to be evil, yet not quite peaceful – but she’s undeniably one of the most intriguing and engaging characters in Ahsoka‘s roster and I’m excited to see where her story goes from here.
4. Grand Admiral Thrawn
In the wider Star Wars universe, Thrawn is revered as a tactical genius, a brilliant mind who could outthink even the smartest of adversaries. His intellect is legendary, and his mastery of culture and strategy are second to none in the Star Wars Expanded Universe. Lars Mikkelsen, the same man who voices Thrawn in Rebels, certainly gives it his all in bringing Thrawn to life in the flesh, and apart from a few things, it was truly surreal to see a character you’ve wanted to see come to life so badly finally take part in a solid, canon live-action series.
Mikkelsen’s Thrawn, while making a grand entrance, kind of leaves viewers yearning for more. In Ahsoka, he takes on a pompous and important air, and his actions and decisions made on the spot really highlight how intelligent and cunning he really is. It showcases that Thrawn does everything he can to ensure he’s come out on top. Thrawn in Ahsoka may not hold a candle to the strategic genius we’ve come to know and love in the Heir to the Empire trilogy books that tell his story, but there’s an undeniable charm in his confidence that adds a layer of fun to the character.
I can’t wait to see him wreck the galaxy, honestly.
Long live the Empire.
