It’s been almost 10 years since The Maze Runner premiered and theaters. The Maze Runner’s release in September 2014 kickstarted one of the most successful young adult action franchises of the 2010s. To celebrate the release of the film series, we ranked all three of The Maze Runner movies from worst to best.

The Maze Runner film series is based on the best-selling book series of the same name by James Dashner. The Maze Runner trilogy started with The Maze Runner in 2009, followed by The Scorch Trials in 2010 and The Death Cure in 2011.

Dylan O’Brien stars in the series, along with Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Will Poulter, Giancarlo Esposito, Aidan Gillen, Ki Hong Lee, Barry Pepper, Lili Taylor, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Patricia Clarkson

Here’s the list of The Maze Runner movies:

  • The Maze Runner (2014)
  • Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015)
  • Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018)

Let’s get the ranking of The Maze Runner movies started with the worst movie of the franchise, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.

3. Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is based on the second book of Dashner’s book series, The Scorch Trials. It premiered in theaters in 2015, one year after the premiere of The Maze Runner. Overall, it’s the worst of the three Maze Runner movies.

In The Scorch Trials, Thomas, Teresa, and the remaining Gladers who survived the maze at the end of the first film realize they’re still trapped by WCKD, which is looking for a cure to a deadly virus that wiped out much of Earth’s population. After escaping WCKD, the group finds a group of rebels, the Right Arm, who oppose WCKD, and they try to stay alive in the Scorch, which is also full of its share of monsters.

There’s nothing seriously wrong with The Scorch Trials. It’s still a very watchable action movie, but it’s not quite as good as Maze Runner: The Death Cure, the third movie of the franchise. It doesn’t work nearly as well The Maze Runner. Once Thomas, Teresa, and the Gladers leave the Glade and maze, things just aren’t quite the same.
