2. Maze Runner: The Death Cure

Maze Runner: The Death Cure is the third and final movie in the trilogy. It’s based on Dashner’s novel of the same name, and it was released in theaters three years after the second movie. The film was delayed after star Dylan O’Brien suffered a serious injury while filming a stunt sequence for the movie. The film was originally set to premiere in 2017, but it was bumped to 2018.

The film begins after the events of The Scorch Trials with the Gladers trying to infiltrate The Last City to find their friend Minho (Ki Hong Lee), who was taken by WCKD. It also continues the Right Arm’s plot to stop WCKD.

The Death Cure is very clearly the second-best Maze Runner movie. It’s a bit better than The Scorch Trials, but it’s nowhere near the level of The Maze Runner. There’s a much tighter story in the first movie, but The Death Cure does offer a fulfilling resolution to this story, which is great to watch.

We should also all be grateful that The Death Cure was only one movie. There was talk that the movie would split the book’s story into two parts, which would have been a major mistake. It was all the rage to split the final movie into two movies during this time period for young adult stories, including The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Twilight, and more. Thankfully, they didn’t do that here, or the movies would have been really bad.
