Wolverine is finally confirmed to be teaming up with the MCU Avengers, but his first official team-up with the Avengers isn’t coming as fans might have hoped.
In the years since the Marvel Cinematic Universe first launched in 2008, fans have been clamoring for the X-Men to team up with the Avengers on-screen. Sadly, this was a moment that never came during the Infinity Saga but the X-Men are finally primed to make their presence known with the MCU as Marvel begins building to its fifth and sixth Avengers movies.
With Hugh Jackman tapped to reprise his role as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, it seemed like the foundation was being laid for Wolverine to finally cross paths with the Avengers on the big screen for the first time. This might still be the plan at Marvel Studios; however, in a highly unexpected twist, Wolverine is about to team up with the MCU Avengers for the first time this October in the most unexpected of ways.
LEGO Marvel Avengers: Code Red finds Wolverine teaming up with the Avengers
In Marvel Studios’ new original special LEGO Marvel Avengers: Code Red, The Avengers must assemble to stop the Collector after they discover he’s begun kidnapping every character who has the word “red” in their name including Black Widow’s father, Red Guardian.
After Red Guardian is taken by the Collector, the Avengers must team up to put a stop to the Collector’s latest scheme and save the prisoners he’s managed to take captive. To do so, Iron Man, Steve Rogers’ Captain America, Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Hulk, and Black Panther must team up with an unlikely ally in Wolverine. That’s right, Wolverine is finally teaming up with the Avengers from the MCU!
“He’s the best at what he does,” Steve tells a leary Hulk about the idea of teaming up with the X-Men hero, to which Black Widow adds, “And what he does isn’t very nice.”
Cue the Avengers heading to a tropical local where Wolverine is trying to enjoy his lunch in peace before being recruited to team up with the Avengers to battle the Collector. What follows after Wolverine is recruited? Well you can check out the trailer for LEGO Marvel Avengers: Code Red below to get a hint of the hijinks that ensue.
The addition of Wolverine to Disney Plus’s new Marvel Studios special is an interesting and intriguing decision, one that hints that Marvel might be looking to ease the character into the mix organically as it prepares to build toward the Avengers eventual battle with Kang in the live-action MCU.
While Wolverine has crossed paths with the Avengers over the years in other mediums, we haven’t seen the character crossing paths with the key characters from the MCU’s Avengers in a manner such as this before which is truly exciting. Getting to see Wolverine battling it out alongside the Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, Captain America, and more in the new Marvel Studios special is sure to be a treat that will get fans excited for the potential of Wolverine’s live-action debut in the MCU and what it might bring.
LEGO Marvel Avengers: Code Red arrives exclusively on Disney Plus on October 27!
