3. Batman

For comic fans or fans of Batman in general, we were not happy. The DCEU introduced this version of the Dark Knight as a mass-murdering, grizzled, grumpy hero. He hated Superman and fell for Lex Luthor’s lackluster manipulation. No, not all of that is bad, as much of it does happen in the comics. The execution was poor.

There was Batman and Alfred, no sidekicks or anything that made Batman fans excited for the hero’s future. We never got the in-depth story of who this Batman was or why he was so different from most incarnations of the hero. Sure, we got teases and glimpses, but there wasn’t any depth behind any of it. That was the problem with Batman v Superman and Justice League in general, and Batman was made worse by it.

As Batman, Ben Affleck was the perfect casting choice in terms of fit. He’s 6’4 with a voice and a natural look that’s intimidating, fitting for the protector of Gotham City. A place in the DCEU that was all but ignored. In all fairness, Affleck was rumored to direct and pen a script where Batman would take on Deathstroke. There were other rumors of a possible film where Batman found himself in Arkham Asylum. A lot of turmoil stopped any Batman film from being made. Out of nowhere, Affleck retired from the role, making his last appearance in The Flash. At least we haveThe Batman Universe.
