34. Black Lightning season 4

Black Lightning‘s final season was not well-received. It might have something to do with the fact that fans felt caught off-guard by the announcement that the show would be ending so early into its run or the departure of China Anne-McClain, but it jut didn’t come together in the way that a final season should.

The season focused on Jefferson’s retirement as Black Lightning and his refusal to go back to a life of heroics. But when his feud with archenemy Tobias Whale escalated once again, he of course, had to put on the suit again to end his reign of terror once and for all. That actually sounds great when you say it like that, but the execution of the storyline let it down, leaving parts of it feeling a little rushed.

One of the biggest disappointments of Black Lightning season 4 being its last was the fact that the show had just become an Arrowverse series due to Crisis On Infinite Earths. The decision to end the show so soon after that made us all question what the point of it even was, as its conclusion robbed Black Lightning of a chance to explore its new world on Earth-Prime and to cross over with the other DC shows on The CW.

All that being said, the Painkiller storylines were easy standouts in this season, and it made us all excited at the prospect of the character’s potential spinoff (which unfortunately wasn’t picked up).
