6. Commander Paul Stamets (USS Discovery)

Appeared in: Star Trek: Discovery

Yet another one of my personal favorites (I simply love Star Trek: Discovery), Mister Paul Stamets sits at No. 6 on our list

Now, first and foremost, the brilliant Paul Stamets isn’t technically in the official Number One seat. But let’s be honest, titles aren’t everything. This fun-loving mycologist might spend more time with mushrooms than manuals but, when the chips are down, he’s right there in the thick of it, guiding the USS Discovery through the far reaches of space with his groundbreaking spore drive. His dedication and passion for his work – not to mention the fact he can actually dance – light up the screen every time, making him a fan favorite.

However, compared to some of the other first officers who’ve been in the game for a bit longer and have that classic Starfleet polish, Stamets lands at number six. While he might not wear the title of first officer, he sure brings a refreshing zest to leadership aboard the Discovery.

Real leaders don’t always need titles to lead, and Paul Statmets is the perfect example of that – he also gifted us with some Star Trek: Discovery‘s finest moments in the process.
