3. The Undertaker vs. Batista – Cyber Sunday 2007

After Edge had cost The Undertaker the World Heavyweight Championship (the first time) in the summer of 2007, The Phenom returned for vengeance in the fall. In order to reclaim his title, though, he would have to go through the new champion: Batista, who had reclaimed the gold during The Deadman’s absence. The rematch we were all waiting for was set at Cyber Sunday 2007, with Stone Cold Steve Austin thrown in as the special guest referee for good measure.

This is easily the most underrated of the pair’s matches. I say this as a huge Undertaker fan who was upset that he didn’t win when I first watched it back in 2007. It was a banger of match, again because of the story it told. First thing’s first; these two men knew each other so well at this point, so it was virtually impossible for either one of them to outsmart the other. And the opening seconds, in which they dodge some of each other’s signature moves, went a long way in showcasing that.

Speaking of stories, the real story heading into this match was that Batista had never beaten The Undertaker. That came into play throughout the action at Cyber Sunday, because he could not overcome The Deadman, who kept getting back up no matter what was thrown at him. That was until Batista whipped out two consecutive Batista Bombs to keep him down for the three-count.

This was exactly what the feud needed at this point in time. Batista got the win that evaded him for so long and retained his championship, while The Undertaker looked incredibly strong even in defeat. Four months apart and their chemistry was as strong as ever. What a barn-burner.
