9. Star Trek: Very Short Treks

That brings us to the most recent installment in the Star Trek lore, which might just be the shortest outing yet – though very much so by its own design. Very Short Treks is a web-series of shorts released between September and October 2023. It was created for the 50th anniversary of the original animated series and features characters from multiple of the Star Trek shows.

While a valiant attempt at re-creating the success of Short Treks (we’ll get to that one shortly),this even tinier series missed the mark slightly. Mimicking the older Star Trek shows, the humor doesn’t quite land and the animation itself is… pretty unimpressive. The stories are silly, more silly than interesting, and I found myself pretty uninterested in these little episodes that are not even four minutes long.

Though, I have to admit I smiled a lot during “Hollowgrams All the Way Down” – the nostalgia was immense in that one. Show by show, we got to see some of our favorite characters animated and entangled in a funny story. The other episodes aren’t as impressive and I hate to say I’m disappointed in their inability to catch my attention.
