7. Star Trek: Lower Decks

Situated within the storied confines of Starfleet, Star Trek: Lower Decks veers off the beaten path to cast light on a rarely explored topic. The animated show centers its stories on the lives of junior officers, those individuals often left in the background of most of the Star Trek series. Lower Decks also treats us to an entertaining and delightfully voyage, presenting us with charmingly flawed characters whose exploits make for fun and engaging watch. The show leverages the comedic potential of their misadventures while adding razor-sharp dialogue that makes every interaction refreshing.

Yet, it’s in its homage to Star Trek lore that Lower Decks really does shine. Filled with a profound reverence for the franchise’s rich history and lore, the series frequently interlaces established threads of the Trek universe into its own story. But, when it ventures too far from the tried-and-true lore, Lower Decks tends to stumble, and the narrative seems to lose some of its traction.

Despite these rare missteps, the show offers an enjoyable and distinctly novel addition to the Star Trek pantheon, breathing new life into Starfleet’s lesser-known corners with its unapologetically irreverent spin.
