6. Season 4, Episode 22 – “Revenge”
Clocking in at number six is “Revenge” from season 4. There’s no denying that this episode showcases the show’s ability to handle heavy emotions and dark themes while still retaining its core identity.
One cannot discuss “Revenge” without going into the intense re-emergence of Darth Maul, a character whom many believed had met his end in The Phantom Menace after Obi-Wan split him in half for slaying his Master, Qui-Gon Jin. This episode’s brilliance lies not just in the return of a fan-favorite but in the very distinct portrayal of Maul’s torment, anger, and thirst for retribution. His interactions with his brother, another fan-favorite by the name of Savage Opress, paint a picture of loss, manipulation, and the consuming nature of vengeance.
While the episode is undoubtedly powerful, the episodes ranked above it have a slight edge in terms of being able to contribute to the multi-layered storylines already present, character development, or pure Star Wars essence.
That said, “Revenge” is like a well-crafted dark saber – sharp and mesmerizing, offering an in-depth exploration of the darker side of the Force. It proves that, sometimes, the shadows cast by the light can tell just as compelling a story as the light itself.
