17. Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons

Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons was a surprise. The first fully-CGI animated movie within the DC Universe Animated Original movie franchise, it had a lot to prove and it did it. The animation itself was great, while the design made for a stark change from what we were used from DC animated movies. It might not work for every movie, but it worked very well for this one.

The film’s greatest attribute is just how much fun it is. Battle of the Super Sons is based on the Super-Sons comic books, it showcases the relationship between a young Jonathan Kent, a.k.a. Superboy, and Damian Wayne, a.k.a. Robin, as the pair navigate the world of heroism and teamwork. They are nothing alike, and struggle to get along (and that is 100% down to Damian) but they must do so when an alien invasion, led by Starro, leaves the fate of Batman, Superman, and the entire world in their hands.

There is a youthful energy to Super Sons that makes it a joy to watch. It’s an adventure that was designed to be fun, and it is, with Jack Dylan Grazer and Jack Griffo both doing a great job as the title heroes. This movie is exactly what it needed to be, and we’re all better off for watching it.
