46. Abu

One constant in Disney movies is characters having an animal companion. Some of them can communicate using real words. Then there’s Abu. He remains one of the best and, for a lot of people, he was one of the first non-human partners for a lead character.

Throughout Aladdin’s journey in the movies and the animated show, Abu was Aladdin’s closest friend. Despite not being able to speak, they communicated in a way that should be admired. Abu was also slick, fun, and sassy. Without him, there wouldn’t be a Muchu, Maximus, and so many more.

45. Darkwing Duck

"“Let’s get dangerous.” -Darkwing Duck"

Darkwing Duck is everything that Batman is and isn’t. He’s Clumsy but skilled. He fumbles on the easiest of assignments and still gets the job done. It’s what draws people to him. Also like Batman, a lot of his rogue’s gallery has superpowers. Meanwhile, Darkwing uses gadgets and relies on the help of his friend.

Darkwing Duck’s appeal may not have been as big as in the 1990s, but that doesn’t matter. He’s still a character that should be heralded as one of the best. For nothing else, his show helped start an era of original Disney animated shows with characters not based on or from a movie.
