36. Cruella de Vil

"“The thing is, I was born brilliant, born bad, and a little bit mad.” -Cruella de Vil"

The original Cruella de Vil was reprehensible. She wanted to kill dogs to make a coat. That’s easily one of the most disgusting things we’ve witnessed in a Disney project. That’s where the creativity of her first Disney project ends.

As the movie went on, she bumbled around with her awful henchmen and ended up losing in the end. That’s pretty standard stuff. The live-action version (Disney’s Cruella) helps put her on the list.

Some people may not have liked the retelling of Cruella’s story, but Emma Stone was a superior Cruella de Vil. Even if that wasn’t her real name. She was someone who worked hard to get where she was and found creative ways to defeat someone more powerful. It wasn’t the “Kill the Dalmatians” that people wanted, but it was a better story.

35. Shere Khan

"“Then you should also know that everyone runs from Shere Khan.” -Shere Khan"

Villains aren’t feared the way Shere Khan is. A lot of antagonists need gimmicks to be evil. He didn’t use tricks to be terrifying. Shere Khan is a literal animal with a brutal reputation. And, unlike other villains, he constantly reminded everyone that he earned his rep. Anyone who thought it was false became Shere Khan’s food.

In the animated Disney show Talespin, he was still intimidating. Instead of mauling his victims, Shere Khan destroyed them in a boardroom. A case can be made that he was scarier as a businessman. Either way, he’s not to be messed with.
