James Gunn gives disappointing update for The Brave and the Bold movie
DC Studios co-CEO and co-chair, James Gunn, revealed there is no script yet for new Batman film reboot, The Brave and the Bold.
James Gunn has recently been on a roll sharing exciting updates for Superman: Legacy and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, unfortunately, there is not-so-good news for the DCU’s Batman reboot, The Brave and the Bold.
In response to a question from a fan on Instagram, asking whether there would be any casting announcements for The Brave and the Bold that would see Andy Muschietti behind The Flash and the It saga at the helm. Gunn in response said: “No. We don’t even have a script yet.”
While admittedly, this reporter covering this story is disappointed Gunn is not delivering the goods since he along with co-CEO and co-chairman, Peter Safran revealed their slate of films and shows marking Chapter 1 “Gods and Monsters” back in January 2023. The fact very little movement has taken place since its report aside from the Muschietti’s (including Barbara Muschietti) were attached to the project in June is quite a shame.
There is no writer for The Brave and the Bold yet
So far, no screenwriter has been attached to the project, but this reporter has a vague idea of who may be the likely candidate, which can be discussed later.
Gunn stated he will not practice the filmmaking process wherein a project advances forward whilst also writing the script at the same time. That will not be carried out in the DCU and the filmmaker and studio executive stated these have a way of causing problems having said:
"“We’re not going to be making movies and putting hundreds of millions of dollars in a film where a screenplay is only two-thirds of the way done and we have to finish it while we’re making the movie.”“People have become beholden to [release] dates, to getting movies made no matter what. I’m a writer at my heart, and we’re not going to be making movies before the screenplay is finished.”"
As for who the screenwriter for The Brave and the Bold could be, the likely candidate would be The Flash scribe Christina Hodson, not only has she worked with Muschietti before, but she is revealed to be part of the brain trust who planned two chapters of the overarching story for the DCU alongside Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christal Henry, and Tom King.
As we already are aware, there will be another actor who will be part of the mainline DCU aside from Robert Pattinson who is part of DC Elseworlds in “The Batman Universe”, but as far as we are concerned, we should not expect an actor to be revealed as late as Matt Reeves The Batman – Part II so as not to upset the promotion of that film.
At the very least, not until The Brave and the Bold has entered pre-production, which given the current slate, means the film will not be released until 2026.
