5. Star Trek: Discovery

The crew of the starship Discovery confidently takes its place at the respectable fifth spot in my rankings – and for good reason. Hitting the scene with a modern flair, Star Trek: Discovery arrived on screens in 2017 and it boldly embraces serialized storytelling, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats as each episode unfolds like a captivating space odyssey.

This very interesting and compelling crew consists of Captain Michael Burnham, Commander Saru, Paul Stamets, Owosekun, Detmer, Bryce, Rhys, Nilsson, and Linus. The crew’s commendable visuals and well-crafted character arcs have earned them a solid fanbase, with enthusiasts lauding the series for its visual splendor and engaging character development.

Yet, like any starship navigating uncharted territories, Discovery has faced its fair share of critics who raise an eyebrow at its departure from the traditional Star Trek themes. Nevertheless, this crew’s dynamic journey offers a mix of the new and old, securing its well-deserved spot in the middle of my lineup.

Honestly, Discovery is so good, and its crew is one of the main reasons for that. It changes its premise midway through its run and its even better because of that, with its central characters (and some guests, too) shining the whole way through. Sonequa Martin-Green, in particular, is fantastic as Burnham.
