Nov. 2, 2015 – CBS Television Studios announced today it will launch a totally new “Star Trek” television series in January 2017. The brand-new “Star Trek” will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966. The new series will blast off with a special preview broadcast on the CBS Television Network. 4. Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS)

We’re throwing it all the way back to 1966 to appreciate the charm and splendour of where it all began for the Star Trek franchise. We are, of course, referring to the classic Star Trek: The Original Series, which introduced us to the mighty characters who would help redefine the science fiction genre for years to come.

In the world of Star Trek crews, the classic charm of the original series places its main characters solidly at the fourth spot in our ranking. The titan that is Captain Kirk, with his suave command style, leads a crew that is complemented by Spock’s logical brilliance, and McCoy’s irreplaceable wit – the trio that laid the foundation for every starship adventure to come.

The Original Series is the blueprint, the cosmic birthplace of iconic characters and unforgettable moments. Its cultural impact in television history is tremendous. However, like a vintage starship, TOS might feel a bit retro to the modern and newer Trek fan. Despite this, it stands proudly as the launchpad for the vast Star Trek universe we know and love today, and its bridge crew are nothing short of timeless.

The franchise has lived long and prospered because of these guys.
