Sinister Six

It feels strange even writing this since it’s been far too long since there has been any official update on Sony’s long-planned Sinister Six movie, but it seems like 2024 will be the year that all of that building will come to a head – and not necessarily in the way Sony hopes it will.

This is a film that has been in the works since 2014, with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 laying the groundwork for it. Its original incarnation never worked out, as Sony made a deal with Marvel Studios to allow Spider-Man to join the MCU instead. The studio has since focused on building out a universe of Spider-Man villains, with VenomMorbius, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage all coming out since.

While the Venom movies are incredibly popular, Morbius underperformed significantly. The movie itself, and the post-credits scene, were received incredibly poorly, which is problematic as it was seemingly setting up the long-teased Sinister Six movie. And with two more (non-Venom) Marvel movies coming out next year that could underperform at the box office, it could mark the beginning of the end for the Sinister Six film.

Would people be interested in a team-up movie if not enough of them went to see the films that set them up?
