5. Deadpool

Writer: Gerry Duggan

If you want to know who Deadpool is, this is the series to read. Gerry Duggan knows that Wade Wilson’s story is a tragedy. That’s why he builds Wade up to tear him down. It’s also the best example of Deadpool’s sarcasm, fighting prowess, personality, and more.

4. Grayson

Writer: Tom King, Tim Seeley

Grayson is the way to go for readers who want to know why Dick Grayson’s revered. He’s more than the first Robin and current Nightwing. He has a lot of attributes that prove why he’s the leader of DC’s premiere superhero team.

3. Ultimate Comics Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Writer: Brian Michael Bendis

Miles Morales’ rise to stardom didn’t happen overnight. There were a lot of hurdles that Miles had to jump and he cleared them all. Start with this series and see why he’s the Spider-Man of the future.

2. Batman (New 52)

Writer: Scott Snyder

There was a lot to not like about DC Comics’ New 52. Batman by Scott Snyder wasn’t one of them. Everything you loved about the Dark Knight was here. There were a few changes, but it didn’t matter. The heart of the lore was there.

1. Invincible

Writer: Robert Kirkman

Invincible is perfection. Robert Kirkman doesn’t waste a panel or word throughout the series. Even the ones that seemed like nonsense. Every moment has a purpose. Especially the conversation between Mark and Omni-Man during their fight.

While comic books in the early 2000s weren’t trying new things, Invincible did. It’s why the series was way ahead of its time. Decades from now, it will still be one of the best.
