The world of DC comics has some of the most recognizable characters in the world. It's not just their superheroes either, but their villains that are well-known as well. When thinking of the supervillains, two names who are regarded as some of the most captivating and badass characters in the DC catalog are the Man who Broke the Bat, Bane, and the Terminator and arch enemy of the Teen Titans, Deathstroke.
These two characters have intrigued fans for decades, but it has now been reported that Bane and Deathstroke, two characters who've never (at least to this writer's knowledge) teamed up in any significant way in the comics, movies, or shows, could be teaming up in a movie for DC Studios! At least, that's what's been floating around the rumor mill as of late.
What's official?
An exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter reveals that a team-up movie between Bane and Deathstroke is currently in the works at DC Studios. Any further details about this project are under wraps or nonexistent, as the film is reportedly in the very early stages of development, as the script and overall story are still being written.
The Screenrant article went on to confirm that screenwriter Mathew Orton is penning the script for this film, who also had a hand in the script for the upcoming MCU movie Captain America: New World Order.
This film might not even get made, because, from the mouth of James Gunn, the scripts for any and all DCU-related projects must be approved before production can begin, so if this script isn't approved, the team-up project could likely get canceled or converted into something else. Again, nothing else concrete is known about the film, so most of what we fans can do now is only speculate on the future of this film and the DCU as a whole.
What could actually be happening?
Very little is known about the Brave and the Bold film, but what is known is that Damian Wayne will be the Robin to a seasoned Batman, and it could be very likely that Bane and Deathstroke could be involved in the overall plot and/or could be the main villains.
This writer has two theories, one being that Bane and Deathstroke will be the first time Batman will fight them in this movie, which could lead to Bane breaking Batman's back just like in Bane's introduction in the comics. This theory seems the least likely to occur due to the fact that this Batman film will be the first Batman starring film in the DCU continuity (unless otherwise disputed or changed with further announcements), and they wouldn't want to cripple the new Batman in his first film.
The second theory is that Batman has fought one or both of these villains in the past and that Bane and/or Deathstroke sought one of them out to take on Batman and defeat him once and for all. This could be further developed by stating that Deathstroke was secretly hired by Ra's Al Ghul, grandfather of Damian and enemy of Batman, to take out Batman and bring Damian back to him to become his heir to the League of Assassins, in which Deathstroke would ally himself with Bane, or it could be the other way around, where Ra's hires Bane and Bane recruits Deathstroke to take on Batman and retrieve Damian. Bane and Ra's have worked together in the comics on more than one occasion, such as in the Contagion storyline, but either scenario works, and it could lay the seeds for Ra's to be the big bad of the Batman films going forward. But this is only a fan's wild theories about the future of the DC brand in films and beyond.
