In the previous comic book news in brief article, the Firestorm Matrix becomes sentient in The Fury of Firestorm No. 1. Warren Worthington III gets new powers that come with a hefty price in Inglorious X-Force No. 4. And Carnage takes over Spider-Man’s body in Venom No. 257. This week, there’s more to know, so here we go.

New Challengers

  • Title: Exquisite Corpses No. 12
  • Writer: James Tynion
  • Artist: Michael Walsh
  • Colors: Jordie Bellaire

Just when you think things have been finalized and a new ruler of America would be crowned, two new challengers step up. Audrey (who was once Jason’s soft-spoken mother) became New York’s representative (being called Audrey Unleashed) after Laura became Massachusetts’ Last Gunman. No one could have seen this coming, and you know there’s at least one more twist coming.

A captured friend

  • Title: Absolute Wonder Woman No. 19
  • Writer: Kelly Thompson
  • Artist: Hayden Sherman
  • Colors: Jordie Bellaire

While Wonder Woman was attempting to save Giovanni Zatara, Giganta kidnapped Barbara Minerva on Veronica Cale’s orders. Let’s see if this leads to Barbara becoming the second version of Cheetah, like in the comics, or something more dangerous.

Regardless of what happens, we can guess that this storyline is the beginning of Wonder Woman and Barbara’s rivalry. First, Diana leaves Barbara (issue No. 18), and then she isn't there to save her.

Broken bones

  • Title: Wolverine No. 18
  • Writer: Saladin Ahmed
  • Artist: Martín Cóccolo
  • Colors: Jesus Aburtov

Wolverine is a character who has fought humans, aliens, mutants, and gods. After reading this issue, this doesn’t seem to have been a coincidence because Logan is this world’s Savage Champion. That means he’s a mix of three natures in a single soul (man, nature, and metal) and is destined to save the world. Sadly, it will have to be without his adamantium claws.

Reason for the contest

  • Title: The Flash No. 32
  • Writer: Ryan North
  • Artist: Gavin Guidry
  • Colors: Adriano Lucas

Linda Park does some investigating and learns that the online contest was a distraction for something nefarious. Someone is building a nuclear weapon, and it's in Central City. Captain Cold has information on where the nuke is being built, but the duo is too late. The bomb was moved, and they have 20 minutes to find it.

A heart attack

  • Title: Sorcerer Supreme No. 5
  • Writer: Steve Orlando
  • Artist: Bernard Chang
  • Colors: Ruth Redmond

The current Sorcer Supreme, Wanda Maximoff, defeated the Dread Dormammu once again, but this time in a hilarious way. She gave a being of pure magic a heart. Dormammu thought this was Wanda’s way of giving him a conscience. He quickly learns that the heart is tied to the rattle of his niece, Donna. Whenever he’s in the realm, and she shakes it, the former lord of the Dark Dimension will be in pain.

Reverse Flash?

  • Title: Absolute Flash No. 14
  • Writer: Jeff Lemire
  • Artist: Haining
  • Colors: Adriano Lucas

At the end of this issue, Mirror Master explains that whenever he goes into the Mirror Dimension, a psychotic version of him is created. Well, it looks like it’s not exclusive to him, because an evil version of Linda and Wally was created when they entered. Is this how Absolute Reverse Flash is created?

Premature announcement

  • Title: Justice League Unlimited No. 18
  • Writer: Mark Waid
  • Artist: Clayton Henry
  • Colors: Tamra Bonvillain

The Justice League supervillain probation was supposed to remain a secret from the public, but Lex decided to make it a publicity stunt. While he, Green Arrow (Connor Hawke), Wildcat (Yolanda Montez), and Giganta were saving people, Luthor was broadcasting it to the world. No way this goes bad, right?

Venom and MJ kill

  • Title: Amazing Spider-Man No. 27
  • Writer: Joe Kelly
  • Pencillers: Carlos Gomez, Francesco Manna, Ed Mcguinness
  • Inkers: Mark Farmer, Carlos Gomez, Wade Von Grawbadger, Francesco Manna, Ed Mcguinness
  • Colors:Erick ArciniegaMarcio Menyz

During Death Spiral, Mary Jane learns firsthand what it’s like to have superpowers and want revenge, thanks to something no one saw coming. In an unexpected twist, Venom killed Torment. Neither MJ nor the symbiote knows which one of them did the deed, but MJ is certainly not doing okay with what happened. This will certainly come back to haunt them during Queen in Black.
