Agatha All Along just confirmed that [SPOILER] isn't dead
Agatha All Along has quickly become one of the most popular TV shows of the year. It should come as no surprise given that it belongs to the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, but there is something pleasantly surprising about seeing such an outlandish and outrageously fun series receiving such positive feedback from both fans and critics. The show has dominated spooky season and for good reason.
It has also provided fans with a good old-fashioned mystery, the likes of which we really haven't had since Agatha's parent series WandaVision, and that is a pretty ironic analogy given what we're about to talk about. For the fifth episode of Agatha All Along just proved to be the most pivotal of the whole season, and it's time to dive into what it all means for one of the MCU's most beloved characters.
Yes, that reveal was a shocker but it also means so much more than the bombshell that was dropped. Remember, this article contains SPOILERS for Agatha All Along episode 5.
Teen's identity proves that the Scarlet Witch is still alive
The fifth episode of Agatha All Along may have been one of the show's shortest installments, but it was also its most important thus far. We knew it would be a big one when Agatha had her trial, but few of us could have expected what was coming.
When things didn't go anyone's way in that trial and Agatha managed to absorb the powers of Alice, who had come to her aid, Teen turned on the witches because of their apparent lack of loyalty to each other. He thought that Lilia and Jen understood his anger, because they did for a moment, but even they highlighted how it's always a witch's duty to seek power. Agatha then laughed at him and told him he was just like his mother.
As a result, he revealed that he had his own, chaotic, blue magic and manipulated Lilia and Jen to bury Agatha in the dirt at the side of the Witches' Road before then doing it to them as well. And upon doing so, a crown formed on his head. A blue crown, reminiscent of the red one worn by the Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff.
This suggests that the rumors of Teen's true identity have been true all along, seemingly confirming that he is indeed the son of the Scarlet Witch: Billy Kaplan, a.k.a. Wiccan. In doing so, it also appears to suggest that she is still alive.
When we last saw Wanda Maximoff in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, her desire to locate her children Tommy and Billy Maximoff ended up turning her into a shell of the hero that she once was, as she became possessed by the darkness of the Darkhold and allowed herself to be corrupted by it. The children that she had created in WandaVision weren't real, so in her attempt to find alternate versions of them in the multiverse, she lost sight of who she was. In a bid to redeem herself, she brought down Mount Wundagore on herself to destroy all remnants of the Darkhold once and for all.
Since then, Marvel has tried to suggest that Wanda actually died in that moment, but fans haven't believed it. Elizabeth Olsen has also cast doubt on a potential return though she has made it clear that she would love to return as Wanda one day.
There has definitely been evidence to support both sides of the argument, but those hoping to see the Scarlet Witch return someday were holding onto the hope that Teen in Agatha All Along might actually be her son like the rumors suggested that he would be. Now that we know he is, there is no turning back; the Scarlet Witch will return someday.
Since Wanda's apparent demise in Doctor Strange 2, there have been rumors of a Scarlet Witch solo movie. In recent months, that has become interconnected to the rumors of a Young Avengers movie, which is expected to feature Wiccan in some capacity. With Agatha now confirming that Teen is Wiccan, the wheels have seemingly been set in motion.
Wanda has evolved into one of the Multiverse Saga's most important characters, so it never made sense to kill her off so soon. Marvel Studios was simply waiting for the right time to further her arc. And with reports of WandaVision and Agatha All Along sequel series suggesting that Wanda's other son, Tommy, a.k.a. Speed, will also make an appearance, the foundations for the Scarlet Witch's return have never been more stable. It's simply a matter of when.
