Agatha All Along season 2 gets a disheartening update

Agatha All Along may not get a second season if Jac Schaeffer doesn’t return, but it won’t be the end of magic, Agatha Harkness, and Wiccan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

There is no doubt that Jac Schaeffer is one of the reasons Marvel Studios’ shows on Disney Plus went from something experimental to a must-have. She started the run with WandaVision, and everyone fell in love. The show wasn’t just funny; it made people think differently about love and power and what people will do with and for both.

Within WandaVision came Kathryn Hahn’s brilliant performance as the super-powerful and long-living Agatha Harkness. Hahn has been a star forever, but the platform of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brought even more eyes to her incredible talent. As she and her character were so beloved, Marvel greenlit spinoff Agatha All Along with Jac Schaeffer. And, shocking to no one, it was a hit.

Agatha All Along combined phenomenal storytelling with equally as good acting, representation, and songs. It’s no wonder that people want more of it in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sadly, that’s one magical spell that may not be cast.

As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, Scaheffer is currently being eyed for the showrunner of Amazon Prime Video's Fourth Wing TV series. If that were to happen, it’s doubtful that she’d have time to create something magical with the returning crew from Agatha All Along and WandaVision. If that’s the case, it may be time to step away from the idea of a second season. - especially since it was previously revealed that Schaeffer normally doesn't do second seasons. Of course, it's important to point out that the show was only designed to be a one-season show, but its immense success has reportedly led to Marvel considering bringing the show back for another outing.

Calling the show magical wasn’t in jest. The show did things that shouldn’t have been possible; nobody could deny how amazing the project was. Especially with how down everyone was in the last couple of phases of the MCU. Now, just because Agatha might not return for a sophomore season, that doesn’t mean it’s the end of spells, witches, and more for Marvel.

Bring on the Strange

Earlier this year, a report came out that Marvel was once considering making a project based on one of their comic books Strange Academy. The show has since been in question as the studio is reportedly going back and forth over whether to make it happen or not. Nevertheless, there is potential for the magical side of the MCU to continue through this one, particularly as Ironheart seemingly set the stage for it.

Strange Academy is a school in New Orleans where kids from all over the universe (and other dimensions) come to learn about magic and how to control their abilities. The faculty members include Doctor Voodoo, Scarlet Witch, Margik, and more. And, since Agatha Harkness taught some classes in the comics, there’s no reason to assume we couldn't see Kathryn Hahn's version of the character appear in a potential series at some point.

Also, again thanks to Ironheart, another regular in Strange Academy named Zelma Stanton could be involved. And while she’s young in the MCU, her knowledge of the mystical arts could make her one of the teachers. Plus, it helps that the actress (Regan Aliyah) was an amazing scene-stealer in Ironheart. We would be lucky to have her return as a major part of Strange Academy.

As much as Jac Schaeffer would be the right person to write and produce Strange Academy, there are also others who could do a great job. The creators behind projects like Supernatural, Wednesday, and The Legend of Vox Machina are only a few teams capable of doing the series justice. And, let’s not forget that Ryan Coogler proved in Ironheart and Sinners that he can write and direct magic with the best of them.

Sadly, fans may not get a second season of Agatha All Along, but, as you can see, it won’t be the last time we see her. Even if Strange Academy isn’t her destiny, there’s no reason to think she won’t run into Mephisto in the future. The idea of them meeting is too much for Marvel writers to pass up.

Let's also not forget that there is a Young Avengers project reportedly in the works. Agatha's ghostly presence is currently helping Billy Maximoff, a.k.a. Wiccan, find his brother Tommy, so she could very well accompany him into that project if and when it comes to fruition.
