Marvel heroes have become so popular over the years that comic book pages were no longer enough to showcase their endless adventures. Now, these iconic figures have an entire interconnected cinematic universe, countless merchandising items, and even video games designed to bring players closer to the action. Fortunately, the superhero giant is keen on releasing more games over the next few years.
Over the past months, titles such as Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls and Deadpool VR were officially unveiled. The best part? They are just the latest in a long list of anticipated projects, which also include the likes of Marvel's Wolverine, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, Marvel's Blade, and more. However, with the recent cancellation of Marvel's Black Panther, fans grew weary that other Marvel titles would also get axed. But after months of speculation, we finally have a promising update regarding the future of one iconic hero.
EA Motive's Iron Man is still in development
EA Entertainment president Laura Miele recently had the chance to talk with Variety about the current state of some of the studio's most iconic franchises, such as Battlefield and The Sims. Furthermore, she also discussed the future of their upcoming Disney adaptations and confirmed that titles such as Respawn's Star Wars Jedi: 3 and EA Motive's Iron Man are still in development, along with other unannounced games.
EA Motive's Iron Man was announced back in September 2022, and was described as a "single-player, third-person, action-adventure" with an "original narrative that taps into the rich history of Iron Man". Since then, it has been officially confirmed that the game will be developed in Unreal Engine 5. But beyond that, nothing else has been revealed about Tony Stark's upcoming project, much to gamers' disappointment.

All the years of silence, coupled with the recent cancellation of EA's Black Panther, led fans to believe that EA Motive's Iron Man would suffer a terrible fate, worse than that of Link in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. But now that we know that isn't the case, we need to ask ourselves: When is Tony Stark's title coming?
A potential leak claimed that the game is "at least two years away". With that in mind, chances are that EA might release a pre-rendered trailer or even a gameplay preview next year, in anticipation of a potential 2027 release date. The Game Awards 2025 could be the earliest EA will show something, but that scenario seems unlikely. Still, it's not completely impossible, considering that games like Beyond Good and Evil 2 gave us a gameplay showcase more than half a decade ago and are nowhere near completion.
Interestingly enough, a job posting suggested EA Motive's Iron Man will have RPG elements and linear levels. This would mean the game could either take the Marvel's Spider-Man route and have a huge map with certain constricted zones for specific missions, or be entirely level-based. Whatever the case, let's hope that EA reveals more about the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, and his upcoming adventure sooner rather than later.
